Following Australian Mutual Bank’s Reconciliation Action Plan launch in 2023, the bank is pleased to announce a donation to Baabayn Aboriginal Corporation, to support their crucial community initiatives. The donation was made during the NAIDOC Week celebration organised by Baabayn in Emerton in western Sydney.

NAIDOC Week, celebrated nationwide 7-14 July, honours the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year’s theme is “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud,” highlighting cultural resilience and pride.

Baabayn Aboriginal Corporation, founded in 2012 by five respected Aboriginal elders from western Sydney, is dedicated to connecting individuals and families with culturally appropriate support. Their mission is to provide culturally sensitive services that assist individuals and families in healing from historical traumas while nurturing a strong sense of identity and belonging. With extensive community knowledge and contacts, Baabayn is a cornerstone of support for the First Nations community in western Sydney.

The NAIDOC event in Emerton was a vibrant Cultural Family Fun Day filled with traditional dances, live music, children’s activities, cultural stalls, and food and treats for every taste.

Representatives from Australian Mutual Bank, including CEO Mark Worthington and members of the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) working group, were warmly welcomed at the event. Their presence underscored our bank’s commitment to reconciliation and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Elektra, a proud Wiradjuri member of our team, graced the occasion joining a cultural dance performance.

We are grateful to Baabayn for their hospitality and the essential work they do in the community. Our donation aims to support Baabayn’s efforts in providing a place of cultural connection for Aboriginal peoples.

"I would like to thank the Directors of Baabayn for welcoming us into their community and allowing us to be part of this celebration. We are pleased to contribute to Baabayn’s mission and support your great work” said CEO Mark Worthington.

The donation will help Baabayn Aboriginal Corporation continue providing essential services and support, fostering a stronger, more connected community in western Sydney.
