Australian Mutual Bank was proud to attend the relaunch event of Women in Mutuals last week - a powerful gathering of leaders and changemakers in the mutual community.

This was more than an event – it was the revival of a movement dedicated to leadership, connection and driving meaningful change within our industry.

Sponsored by the Australian Mutuals Foundation (AMF), the event brought together professionals from across the sector to share insights, experiences, and a renewed commitment to shaping a stronger, more inclusive future.

Women in Mutuals is a community committed to supporting and elevating women in the mutual sector. The relaunch builds on a longstanding initiative, now revitalised with fresh momentum and a clear vision: to drive leadership that reflects the diversity of our communities and the collaborative spirit of mutuality.

Gaylene Quitadamo from Customer Owned Banking Association (COBA) opened the event with some powerful words:

“Success isn’t just about climbing the ladder, it’s about lowering the ladder for others. We have a responsibility to support emerging leaders, to share our experiences, and to create space for new ideas and perspectives.”

A highlight of the event was the address from special international guest speaker, Elenita Roque (Leni San Roque), CEO of the Asian Confederation of Credit Unions (ACCU). As the first woman to lead ACCU in its 43-year history, Leni’s presence was both inspiring and deeply significant.

Leni captivated the audience with her personal story, sharing insights into her leadership journey and the lessons that shaped her path. She spoke about resilience, purpose, and the power of networks that support women to lead with confidence and authenticity.

Her message resonated deeply with attendees, sparking meaningful conversation and a shared sense of purpose.

The event closed with a compelling call to action from Gaylene:

"We are united by a shared purpose, to lead with heart and support one another, lift each other up and create inclusive future focused workplaces."

We left feeling inspired, motivated, and proud to be part of a community that values collaboration, leadership, and positive change.

At Australian Mutual Bank, we remain committed to championing initiatives like Women in Mutuals that foster leadership, empower emerging voices, and help shape a better future for all.
